Free 1st year tuition at southwestern College

Attention SENIORS and NEW GRADUATES!

If you're a new graduate and/or attending college for the first time, you may be eligible for free tuition, plus more, for your first year of college.

Here are the criteria to be eligible:
  • Recent high school graduate enrolling in college for the first time
  • Enroll in, and complete, at least 12 units each semester
  • Maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application
  • Complete the Steps to Success process
  • Complete the Promise Application online or print and bring in the PDF.
  • Be a California resident or AB540 eligible
  • Participate in Promise activities

Other assistance are available for second year students.

Fulfilling the Promise Grant
Second-year tuition assistance of at least $1,100 for selected students. Funds are limited. This grant begins in Fall 2019.

Student Success Completion Grant
Up to $4,000 annually in financial assistance for income-eligible students receiving Cal Grant B and enrolled in 12 - 15 units. Funds may be used for books, supplies and/or housing.


Support Services for Your Success
Southwestern College offers a variety of services, including child care, the Jag Kitchen food pantry, learning communities such as First-Year Experience (FYE), Umoja, Bayan and Puente and the Power Study Program which embeds tutors in certain classes. The 2014 NHSC Scholarship Program application cycle is now open. All completed applications must be submitted by May 15, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. ET to be considered for an award. Please refer to the Application and Program Guidance for all of the program requirements.

You can apply to the Scholarship Program if you are committed to primary care and accepted to or enrolled in a fully accredited training program for
  • Physicians (MD or DO)
  • Dentists
  • Nurse Practitioners
  • Certified Nurse-Midwives
  • Physician Assistants 
The scholarship pays tuition, fees, other educational costs, and provides a living stipend  in return for a commitment to work at least 2 years at an approved outpatient facility in a medically underserved community.

The scholarship can be awarded for as many as 4 years. With each year (or partial year) of support beyond the first year, the student agrees to provide one additional year of service, with a maximum of four years.

The 2014 NURSE Corps Scholarship Program application cycle is now open.  All completed applications must be submitted by May 22, 2014, at 7:30 pm, ET to be considered for an award.  Please refer to the 2014 Application and Program Guidance for all of the program requirements.

Eligibility is open to students who are U.S. Citizens, nationals or lawful permanent residents and are enrolled or accepted in an accredited diploma, associate, baccalaureate or graduate nursing program; including Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science (BSN) Bridge Programs. 

Applicants are encouraged to begin the application process early.  On average, it takes approximately 3 weeks to complete the application process. Please encourage applicants to locate supplemental documentation, as well as begin requesting letters of recommendations and official school transcripts.

The NURSE Corps Scholarship Program is expected to be competitive. A funding preference will be given to qualified applicants with the greatest financial need based on their Expected Family Contribution (EFC) between $0 and $5,550. Also, up to fifty percent of the funds will go towards awards made to nurse practitioners. 

Scholarship support includes tuition, required fees, other reasonable educational costs, and a monthly living stipend (all taxable) for up to four years. For each year of financial support, a NURSE Corps Scholarship recipient serves one year at a NURSE Corps-approved facility in one of many high-need urban, rural, or frontier communities. The Program requires a minimum 2-year full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent).

  • April 3, 2014:  8:00 - 10:00 p.m. ET
  • May 17, 2014:  1:00 - 3:00 p.m. ET

If you're a senior in high school and going to college, here's a scholarship opportunity for you. I had applied for this scholarship when I was in high school and got $500, now it's at $1000 and 3100 students will be rewarded and 15 of them will receive a CAR!

I tried this not thinking I would qualify, BUT I GOT IT, so try this, don'tt let it pass by... Deadline is FEBRUARY 14th!!!
