The lights are out, the lights out! The electricity has been off since 3 AM this morning in my neighborhood, across the street, and throughout the stores in the area. Stores are closed and there are police cars guarding them to make sure no one tries to break in and steal anything. On top of that, it’s been raining for the last few days so parts of the community is flooded! It’s been a crazy weekend, but you gotta make the most of it… don’t you agree?
So what do you do when the power is out and it’s a rainy day? Well, some of us will resort, lighting, candles, and eating leftovers, or digging through our pantry to see what kind of chips and cookies we can binge on. Not in this house! I enjoy cooking, but my mom loves it more. So what does she cook? Sinigang!
Sinigang is a Filipino soup dish with a sour and savory taste. It’s a very easy dish to cook. So easy I tell people just look at the picture on the powder packet and get those ingredients, put them in water and add the powder. Of course there’s a few things that you want to do when making this dish. You can use any protein, such as beef, pork, fish, shrimp, or even tofu. Like any soup, remove any fat that builds up on the top when cooking the protein. Cook your protein until it’s tender, add the soup powder (picture at the bottom - Tamarind). Then your veggies - I like using gabi (taro) instead of regular potatoes, but either one works - put this first in the soup since it takes longer to soften than the other veggies put after.
Most common veggies that are used include spinach, long beans, tomatoes, onion, and eggplants. Sometimes I like to use bok choy or add broccoli out of all the ingredients, though, you need the tamarind soup powder. I like the Pamana Tamarind Soup powder. The one shown has six packets, so that you can stock up and have it ready for the next time.
Have you tried it? Do you have your own special recipe? Please share, so we can try it! ENJOY!

Good luck on buying the items online and expecting to pick it up also. So here’s some items worth looking at to start crossing out your Christmas List.

When the pandemic hit in 2020 with COVID-19, there were so many people who lost their jobs and did not have enough food to put on the table. Feeding San Diego is a program that helps distribute food to families within the community. Food can also be picked up for your family at participating community churches, centers, and sites where volunteers from all parts of San Diego join together to help each other feed the community.
I remember the first time I went to a community Feeding San Diego event. It was at the Navy Federal credit union Stadium parking lot. It was a fairly far drive from where I lived, and there were hundreds of people there. The process was very simple. You just had to go online and pre-register. But even if you did not pre- register, the volunteers can register you right there. You can also pick up food for your family or friends that also need food.
The locations vary and the foods that are distributed varies as well. Some areas give out strawberries, some give out oranges and apples, sometimes ground turkey or whole chicken frozen will also be included in addition to a box filled with canned goods plus milk plus dry foods, like noodles and oatmeal. Sometimes they give so much I’m able to share it with my neighbors. It’s such a wonderful program. Food is donated from grocery stores, farmers, and all different types of vendors to help participate in the program. Volunteers are always on the lookout, so if you’re interested just go to the website and apply. you can apply individually or as a group. Either way they are happy to have you. I know I appreciate the help. So this is my way of saying thank you to Feeding San Diego. I hope that sharing this information helps reach out to more people in our local community for food and to also get more volunteers.
So if you’re a family in need, don’t be shy. I know I was and I even cried the first time I went. Such a beautiful and wonderful gesture of the community to reach out to everyone. There’s no judgment, no questions, just a helping hand reaching out to those in need. We each have battles of our own that we go through each and every day, so be kind to each other and love each other and smile, you never know who’s heart and who’s life you’ve just changed. Have a wonderful and blessed day!

I was looking for a broom for my Harry Potter theme at work. I came across BIG LOTS enchanted broom. I could not find any videos at the time of this broom and how it works. So guess what? I ordered it online for pick up. Well, I bought it, and the Hubby picked it up for me. There was only a few left. I’m glad that I got one. It was not what I expected. It came in a box. A small box.
I opened the box and it was pretty simple. There was a round mobile yellow piece that needed four AA batteries, three pieces to make the broom handle, and the bottom piece of the broom. The pieces were easily put together within minutes. The tricky part was putting in the batteries. Had to use a screwdriver to open up the battery port.
This was a fun little piece. And everyone laughed when it was turned on. I wish there was more sounds other than the laugh of the witch. I also would have loved the option to lower the volume or turn off the sound. It is motion and sound sensitive, so it will move and make noise when triggered.
Overall, it’s a pretty neat little enchanted broom. A little pricey for the quality, which is mostly plastic, but it is light and not too heavy. This is a fun addition to any them.
Went to CVS to do the weekly coupon shop, but scored more when I came across their summer haul sale… everything was at 75% off but it was more like 85% off. Even scored some $8-10 off $50-70 coupons to make the summer haul even better!
So for my family and friends, guess what you’re getting for Christmas? 😂 Hahaha… it’s summer all year round in California, so it works out. For reals! Target sells bathing suits in December… 🤯!
Even scored some perfumes at 75%+ off and the reviews are about 4.75 stars on these scents! (Added the extra .25 star from moi.) Check it out!
Guess the price for all this?

So I really like shopping at CVS. It used to be Walgreens, but their couponing and the way they’ve applied them is a little bit more tedious. So I do a lot of my couponing at CVS. Plus I score free extra bucks each week, so I take advantage of that extra $4 that they send to me.
Except this time I wanted to try the online service. I have done it before where I just bought something that would use up the $4 reward, but I wanted to see how the process would work with extra bucks.
This was my shopping list for today.

Now I have these coupons on my cart, so you may not have these coupons on your cart, but you can still save a lot if you calculate it. Now I did use some of my extra bucks from last week, so my out of pocket (OOP) was less than $8.
I noticed that my extra bucks did not appear onto my card after purchase. Even when I picked up the items and it was scanned that it was already picked up, it took a while for the extra bucks to populate. So, if you were thinking of using extra bucks after you’ve picked up an item and buy something in store, you may have a problem. I did call customer service and asked about the process and they said that it could take up to 24 hours for the extra bucks to appear. I also noticed that I got the wrong Suave. The online store did not identify which suave participated in the $3 extra bucks reward. I was hoping they would just credit me the $3 extra bucks for the inconvenience, but the lady said I would have to go back to the store and return the item and purchased the right one instead. Also, since it was so much cheaper online, I went and ordered the item online for me to pick up. Got the men SUAVE BODY wash.
My items were neatly packaged in a brown bag. I appreciated how neat it looked and how well they were able to find my order. I like the convenience of ordering online and picking the products up versus having the items shipped. But I value my extra bucks, and I think I would rather go in-store to make sure I picked the right item and if I have a question that I would talk to a live person instead. Because any issues I had online for ordering my products through the website or through the app, I had to call customer service or send them a message online. I didn’t like that. It wasn’t convenient and that meant I would have had to go back to the store the second time around just to get the right product.
So, in conclusion I’m on only going to order products online if I need to pick up something without worrying about extra bucks. But if I want to make sure I get my mullah in return for getting the right products, I’m going in store. Who wants to go with me?!
